Schmierer
Marie Elizabeth Scmierer (96 ½) was born June 21, 1926 in Bethany Beach, Delaware to the late William K. and Edna Mae Derrrickson of Delaware.
In addition to her parents; Marie was also preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Tyre; her 1st husband, Preston C. Rogers; 2nd husband, Kenneth W. Schmierer; and brother, Norman E. Derrickson.
Marie attended Lord Baltimore High School Ocean View Delaware.
She worked on the farm in her younger years. Worked for Perdue. Was a waitress, cashier, secretary, Meter maid for Rehoboth Beach. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary at Millville Volunteer Fire Company. After her second husband's death she moved to Dover and began volunteer work with RSVP at Modern Maturity. She lived at Luther Towers for 18 years. Remaining years she lived with her daughter and care giver Diane Virdin.
Marie loved to be with her family, going to the beach, caring for grandchildren, camping, crocheting, ceramics, painting. During her second marriage they spent their winters in Florida where she enjoyed clogging, country and gospel music. After becoming a Christian, she enjoyed studying the bible and listening to Joel Olstein, David Jeremiah and Gaither music. She was also a member of the Alliance Family Fellowship of Dover.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Virdin (Jack), Faye Phillips (Banus); son, Roy Rogers (Leighann); and daughter, Cheryl Phillips (Keith); stepchildren, Karen Stack, Carol Hellens (Wayne), Kenneth Schmierer, Jr. and Keith Schmierer (Lydia); her sister, Grace Evans (Wallace). She has 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11:30AM, Monday, January 16, 2023 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. It will be co-officiated by Pastor Cornelius Murphy and her son-in-law Jack Virdin. Grave side service will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that you make donations to St. Jude Hospital for Children.
