Marie E. Novotny

SELBYVILLE - On Feb. 10, 2015, Marie E. (Lipske) Novotny passed away at her home. Marie was born Nov. 3, 1921 in Washington, DC to Alexander J. and Marie E. (Hahn) Lipske. Marie attended Holy Comforter School in SE Washington. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1938. After high school Marie trained to be a nurse. She attended the Providence Division of the School of Nursing Education of the Catholic University of America and in 1942 became a Registered Nurse. Shortly after becoming an RN, Marie enlisted in the US Army and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant. After completion of her basic training she shipped out to Nancy, France. While there she met 1st Lieutenant John F. Novotny. They were married August 11, 1945 in Nancy, France. Marie's husband John F. Novotny, Sr. passed away Nov. 21, 1975. Marie was also preceded in death by her parents, Alexander J. and Marie E. (Hahn) Lipske; sister, Catherine Schuepbach; and brothers, Alexander J. Lipske, Jr. and Robert S. Lipske. Marie is survived by her sister, Marjorie Broughton (98); son, James R. Novotny (Corinne); daughter, Margaret E. Crossan; son, John F. Novotny, Jr. (Susan); and sister-in-law, Mary Rouse. She is also survived by five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four nieces; and four nephews. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either: The Parish of Saint Ann, 691 Garfield Pkwy. Bethany Beach, Del. 19930 or CHEER Inc. Meals on Wheels Program, 546 South Bedford St. Georgetown, Del. 19947.
