Marie Ann Bennett

SEAFORD - Marie Ann Bennett died Jan. 4, 2014 in The Country Rest Home in Greenwood. Born on Jan. 23, 1912 in Trenton, NJ., she was the daughter of the late Sue Berger and Harry Housel. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a cherished friend and was a truly remarkable woman. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and being with family. Marie was a 1930 graduate from Laurel High School. In 1948, she started working at the Seaford school and worked there for 24 years until retiring from Seaford High School Food Service in 1972. After retirement, she volunteered at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Methodist Manor House and many church functions. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Seaford for over seventy years. Marie is survived by two daughters, Sandra Ide and husband Ed of Claymont; and Sheila Schieferstein and husband Ralph of Felton. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and John Sagretti, Gregg and Joy Ide, Deb and Steve Conroy, Kevin and Michelle Schieferstein, Randy and Colleen Ide, Tracey Dill, and Lori and Mark Bellotti; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; and special caregivers, Bernie Noell, Amy Gould, Lisa Pugliese and Karen Messick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson in 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar Sts., Seaford, DE, where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Reverend Richard Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie's memory may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar Sts., Seaford, DE 19973. Arrangements are in the care of Watson-Yates Funeral Home in Seaford, DE.
