Callaway, 90 FARMINGTON - Margaret V. Callaway, 90, of Farmington, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2014. Margaret was born June 19, 1923, the daughter of the late William and Louisa Von Goerres in Farmington/Harrington. Margaret graduated from Harrington High School in 1941 and then went to work at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford, where her starting salary was $ .49 an hour. While working at DuPont, she became acquainted with Allen V. Callaway (Pug), whom she later married. She worked as a machine operator for 35 years before retiring. During those years at DuPont, she befriended many people, at work, on the bus trips to and from the plant as well as carpooling. Margaret was the first female to work for a while at an all men's section at the plant. When Margaret was a little girl, she always wanted a cat. Every time she would bring one home, it wasn't long before it left. Once she moved to Farmington, Margaret started feeding the local cats, and because of that, she was to be known as the Cat Lady. She had every one of her cats either spayed or neutered, and would always mention that she alone was able to buy the vet a horse farm. She also loved flowers and spent many days in the yard. She enjoyed reading many books up until her eyesight weakened, slowing her reading capabilities. Her health began to take a turn for the worse when she tripped and broke her ankle trying to avoid a kitten that had been left on her doorstep. After her hospital stays and rehabilitation, her mobility became limited. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen (Pug) Callaway; and her sister, Doris Von Goerres. She is survived by a nephew, Pete Callaway, of Farmington; a niece, Adel Wier, of Hollywood, Fla.; and her lifelong neighbors, Hester Reed and Tish and Bobby Murray. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington where a viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be private in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
