Margaret S. Beardsley

DOVER - Margaret S. Beardsley died Wednesday, Apr. 19, 2017, at Kent General Hospital, in Dover.
Mrs. Beardsley was born in Moosic, Pa., to the late, Erwin Smerdon and Henrietta Sutherland Smerdon.
After attending Goldie Beacom Business School, she was employed by the DuPont Company, as a key punch operator. When her children were older, she returned to work as a receptionist/scheduler, for a dentist in the Middletown Area. She was raised in the Assemblies of God Church, in Pennsylvania, and after moving to Delaware, she became a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, in Townsend. In her 60 plus years of membership, she was active in the United Methodist Women, and was an avid member of the choir. Margaret enjoyed sewing, baking bread, and gardening. She sang with several choirs until her death.
Mrs. Beardsley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Townsend Beardsley in 2014; her brother, William Smerdon, and her sister, Ruth Smerdon.
She is survived by her children, Paul R. Beardsley, of Easton, Md., Dorothy B. Miller and her husband David, of Smyrna, and Susan B. Humphrey and her husband Dave, of Oceanview; Also surviving are six grandchildren, Andrew, Katherine, John, Jennifer, Elizabeth (Beth), and Margaret (Maggie); and four great-grandchildren, Haley, Frank, Andy, and Sheila.
A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 23, 2017, at Immanuel Methodist Church, 209 Main St., Townsend.
Visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to, Immanuel Methodist Church, of Townsend.
