Margaret "Sue" Leta Phillips, 87
HOUSTON - Margaret "Sue" Leta (Jamison) Phillips, of Houston, formerly of Newark, died on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, in Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington. She was 87. Sue was born in Wilmington, on Aug. 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Bentley Milton Jamison and Anna Mae Ryan Jamison. A homemaker and mother, she was a humble, selfless person who was known for loving and caring for all God's creatures. The last several years she spent enjoying gardening, caring for cats, and shopping with her grandchildren, Joshua Roddy, Jacob Roddy, and Cassandra "Minnie" Deitrick. Sue was a longtime member of the Salvation Army. Sue was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, John J. Phillips. She is survived by her eight children, Suzanne L. Fiske of Wilmington, Judith Jester of Newark, Barbara McKeown and husband Tom of Newark, Julia Shockley and husband Bill, Kathy Deitrick and husband Paul of Newark, Helen Roddy and husband Lloyd of Kenton, John E. Phillips and wife Cathy of Landenberg, Pa., and James C. Phillips of Newark; brother, Warren G. "Pete" Jamison of Wilmington; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oxford Cemetery, 220 North 3rd Street, Oxford, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue's memory may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), P.O. Box 6067, Stanton, DE 19804.
