Margaret 'Peg' Jennings Weis
DOVER - Margaret "Peg" Jennings Weis, 85, of Dover, formerly of Wilmington, died Oct. 20, 2009, in Dover surrounded by her family. Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius F. Cremin and Mary J. Healy Cremin. She had graduated Wilmington High in 1941 and graduated from Goldey College in 1942. She had worked for the DuPont Co. from 1942 until 1948 and then again from 1976 until 1979. Peg served on the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital from 1967 - 2009, was a Deputy Sheriff of Wilmington 1975-1976, Wilmington Director of the Federation of Women's Club, President of the Diocesan Mothers Guild, Women's Democratic Club of Del, 11th Ward Committee Woman, State Committee member, and Vice Chairman of the Democratic City Committee. She was also a member of the Wilmington and Dover Century Clubs, Kent General Hosp. Junior Board, Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of St. Ann's, St. Anthony and Holy Cross Churches, C.Y.O. Committee at St. Ann's and the Central Committee of the C.Y.O., Past V.P. of the Women's Delmarva Golf Association, DuPont Country Club and Maple Dale Country Club, The Irish Culture Club, and the Women's Association of the BPO Elks of Dover. Peg was a graduate of the Dover Citizen Police Academy and the Dover Crime Prevention School, along with several Del. State Police Training Seminars. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Paul F. Jennings, Sr., in 1976; her brother, the Rev. John F. Cremin; her sister, Mary J. Cremin; and a grandson, Justin W. Jennings. Peg is survived by her husband, George J. Weis of Dover; two sons, the Very Rev. Paul F. Jennings, Jr. of Chester, Md., and William E. Jennings and wife Nancy of Hockessin; two daughters, Margaret J. Clark of Wilmington, and Constance J. Gallagher and spouse Francis of Hockessin; four stepchildren, Nancy B. Weis of Newark, Lawrence G. Weis and wife Lorna of Viola, Thomas M. Weis and wife Lisa of Dover, and Mary F. Bradley and spouse William of Dover; six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Viewing and visitation will be 10 a.m., Saturday, at Holy Cross Church, So. State St., Dover, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. Arrangements are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc.
