Man charged with rape at Dover hotel

DOVER — A 34-year-old Wilmington man was charged with rape following an incident with a juvenile female Friday, Dover police said.

Police said the alleged assault involved a 12-year-old female at the Days Inn Dover Downtown, 272 N. DuPont Highway. The suspect, James Hinson, left the hotel and was later taken into custody without further incident.

Mr. Hinson provided a false name when he was taken into custody, authorities reported, and was found in possession of 7.3 grams of cocaine, 23 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with second-degree rape (two counts), endangering the welfare of a child, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine in a Tier 1 quantity, offensive touching, criminal impersonation and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $136,250 cash bail.
