BRIDGEVILLE — A 22-year-old Bridgeville man is facing criminal charges after a pursuit Thursday, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.
At approximately 9:28 a.m., a trooper saw De’Andre Barham operating a moped without a registration plate on Mill Park Drive, authorities said. The trooper attempted to stop the moped in the area of Coverdale Road and Evans Drive, but the driver fled from the stop, driving through several backyards before running into the woods, Cpl. DeMalto said.
The officer chased the driver and, upon reaching him, pushed him onto the ground. Mr. Barham physically resisted being handcuffed and reached toward his waist multiple times, police said.
After some time, the trooper was able to take him into custody.
Mr. Barham was found with cocaine, suspected heroin, a prescription pill and drug paraphernalia, Cpl. DeMalto said. He also had two active violation-of-probation warrants.
He was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity (two counts), possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, traffic offenses, disregarding a police officer’s signal and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $24,500 secured bond.
