Madeline Downes, 83

RIDGELY, MD - Madeline Downes, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 in Ruxton Health in Denton. She was 83. She was born Oct. 14, 1925 in Queen Anne County, Md., to the late John William and Susie Mae Cahall Bostic. Mrs. Downes was a 1942 graduate of Sudlersville High School. She was a seamstress for Rob Roy of Ridgely for 20 years, then retired from Leeds Luggage in 1970. She attended St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Denton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Downes Jr., who died on Oct. 15, 1983; and her sister, Anna Mae Walbert. She is survived by one daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Bishop and Robert of Greensboro; four sisters, Pauline Cole of Denton, Betty Lou Davis of Georgia, Phyllis LePore of Ridgely, and Elsie Higgs of Millington; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md. Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, Md. Condolences may be sent to www.fleegleandhelfenbein.com.
