Mabel Schmitt, 88 TOWNSEND - Mabel Schmitt, of Townsend, and formerly of Greensboro, Md., departed this life at home on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008. She was 88. She was a caring mother, grandmother and friend. Mabel retired from Playtex International in Dover, and was an Avon Representative for 56 years in which she earned the President's Club Sales Achievement Award for her dedication, service and leadership. Mabel made her last Avon sale the day before she died. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Eckeard; her second husband, Louis Schmitt; and her companion, Russell Clonch. Mabel was also preceded in death by her parents, William Wyble Hart and Ida May Hart; two infant daughters, Madeline Louise and Edith Marie Eckeard; seven brothers and two sisters. Her memories will be cherished by her four children, Rose Weber and her husband Calvin, with whom she resided in Townsend, Irvin Eckeard and his wife Sandy of Greensboro, Ida May Walkley of Greensboro, and William Eckeard and his wife Florence of Kenton; 13 cherished grandchildren; 25 cherished great-grandchildren; eight cherished great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Homer Hart of Newtown Square, Pa.; and her sisters, Louise Breeding, of Viola, and Bertha Bye, of Avondale, Pa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. Contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
