Mabel M. Lofland, 79 MARYDEL, Md. - Mabel M. Lofland, 79, of Marydel, Md., passed away April 29, 2010, in her residence of 56 years surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Lofland was born on Jan. 19, 1931, in Brenford, daughter of the late George Lacey Clough and Matilda Tharpe Clough. Her family's history dates back to the early 1700's in the Queen Anne's County area. She had worked for Playtex for 15 years before devoting all her time to raising her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, leather crafts, and her exotic birds. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Toulson. Mrs. Lofland is survived by her husband of 60 years, whom she married on April 29 1950, James Franklin Lofland; three daughters, Vicki Lofland of Marydel, Bonnie Hall and her husband Allen of Marydel, Md., and Robin Schurman and her husband Brian of Harrington; two brothers, Wesley Clough of Marydel, Md., and Ronald Clough of Denton, Md.; two sisters, Etta Gustafson of Camden, and Elsa Clough of Denton, Md.; seven grandchildren, Lindsay Lofland, Hayleigh and Jeffrey Hall, Chelsea, Lucas, Nathan and Heather Schurman; a special nephew, Johnny Lacy "Squeaky" Lofland; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff of Chester River Home Care and Hospice especially Mary Lynn and Della. Friends may call on Thursday evening, May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md., where funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Sudlersville Cemetery.
