M. Lynne Byrd Baynard, 63 MAGNOLIA - M. Lynne Byrd Baynard, of Magnolia, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover. She was 63. Lynne was born on May 15, 1946, in Crisfield, Md., daughter of the late William Melvin "Byrdie" and Dorris (Pruitt) Byrd. She was a volunteer coordinator/trainer for several agencies in Delaware including the Sussex CHEER program, the Sussex Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the More Adult Readers in Kent County program (MARK). Lynne also had been the director of the Frederica Adult Center. Her passionate advocacy for the literacy and for the elderly was equaled only by her generosity of spirit towards her loved ones, acquaintances and strangers traveling through life with her. She was of acute intelligence, quick wit, strong emotion, with a zeal for politics, compassion for animals, and unflagging trust in the Lord, who immersed herself in music and literature of all manners. She loved the snug home she shared with her black cat, Noir; she carried that snugness with her, bearing heart's ease as a gift wherever she went, a manifestation of home. Lynne had served as a member of the Board of the Families in Transition Center, was appointed to the Delaware Human Relations Commission, was a volunteer rape crisis counselor for CONTACT Delaware and was named Woman of the Year in 1993 by the Business and Professional Women's organization. Lynne attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dover. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Timothy Shields of Smyrna; a sister and brother-in-law, Dottie and John Bradshaw of Crisfield, Md.; a niece, Jonna Bradshaw and her son Jacob of Crisfield; and a nephew, Jamie Bradshaw and his wife Teresa and their children, Ryan, Amberlyn and Jordan of Chesapeake, Va. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Dec. 12, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
