Lucille (Lucy) Helen Moden (nee Green), 82
Lucille (Lucy) Helen Moden (nee Green), age 82 years young, passed peacefully at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware, on Friday, December 8, 2023, after a long, heart-related illness.
She is survived by her niece, Michelle Donohue, and husband Joseph (Dover); many extended family members (Chew) in New Jersey; best friends, Judy Burnett (Tennessee) and Bernice and Jerry Moon (Colorado); school mates from Milford High School graduating class of 1960; and a legion of fans of her "Crazy Aunt Lucy" stories.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Duffy in 2016; her husband, Robert Moden in 2015; her mother, Etta Polite in 1996; and her father, Jesse Green in 1968.
Born on October 24, 1941, in Woodbury, New Jersey, the family moved to Milford when she was in the 8th grade. She married Rob in 1961 and they moved to Tennessee where she would live most of her life. Lucy had a wide variety of interesting jobs from being a vet tech at the Delaware Equine Center, top advertising saleswoman for the Murfreesboro Merchant Advocate newspaper, to showing and breeding wire-haired dachshunds. She truly loved her dogs, from her first, Baddie, to her most famous, Holly, who was the all-time top champion-producing hound in the 80's. Later she would publish a quarterly magazine called "the Compleat Dachshund" with featured articles, upcoming events, and artwork for sale.
But the thing Lucy will always be remembered for is making other people laugh. It was in her DNA and no matter what was going on in her own life, she always had a joke for those around her. Lucy wasn't the life of the party; she WAS the party!
Lucy loved laughter, life, family, friends, dogs, music, and riding horses, camels, and elephants. She deeply believed in being with the ones you love while you are alive and can enjoy great adventures together. With that, and at her request, burial services will be privately held.
Her family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the staff of Westminster Village Long Term Care and 3 South/ PCU at Kent General Hospital who so compassionately cared for our Lucy over the past few years and during her recent hospitalizations.
