Lucile C. McCoy, 80

BETHEL - Lucile C. McCoy, of Bethel, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 80.

Lucile was born in Wilmington, N.C.

She graduated from Georgetown Visitation Junior College and was president of her class. She also attended Trinity College, Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in English.

Lucile worked at the North Carolina office of Sen. Frank Porter Graham.

She was active in the Lewes–Rehoboth Council of Churches, Prison Fellowship, Casa San Francisco Homeless Shelter, the Village Improvement Association and the Rehoboth Beach Homeowners Association.

Lucile was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Seaford.

She was also an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.

Her husband, Peter F. X. McCoy, died in 1989. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Louise McCoy, in 1992.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas V. McCoy of Bethel, and Peter F. X. McCoy Jr. and his wife Melissa of South Lake, Texas; one daughter, Mary Anne McCoy of Bethel; three grandchildren, Erin McInnis and her husband Jason, Neal McCoy and Shannon McCoy; and one great-grandchild, Austin McInnis. Her dog, Scruffy, also survives her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stein Highway, Seaford.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford.

Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
