HARRINGTON - Louis C. Welch, Jr., of Harrington, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at the Silver Lake Center, Dover where he was a resident for the last six years. He was 57. Mr. Welch was born in Milford, the son of the late Louis C. and Jeannette Welch. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for both Taylor and Messick in Harrington and Tilcon Construction before having to retire on disability. Prior to going into Silver Lake Nursing Home, Louis attended Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington. He was an active member of the Harrington Fire Company in the late 1960s and 1970s. For several years, he raced micro-midget cars. He was an avid NASCAR fan and Tony Stewart was his favorite driver. The last few years, he loved going to the movies and spending time in the mall. Louis faithfully attended the Delaware State Fair every year, giving rides to nurses and those who needed it on his gator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 1995. He is survived by two sons, Matthew T. Welch and his wife Cecelia, of Landenberg, Pa,, and Eric B. Welch, of Houston; grandchildren Matthew of Landenberg, Pa., and Ashlyn, of Houston; two brothers, Edward L. Welch and his wife Cheryl, of Harrington and Donald Welch of Camden; four sisters, Debbie White, Bonnie Smith, and Brenda Morris, all of Harrington and Mildred Stewart, of Blades as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Hwy., Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Harrington Fire Company, Attention: Financial Secretary, 20 Clark St., Harrington, DE 19952.
