CAMDEN-WYOMING - The angels came to take Lorraine home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Lorraine Monahan was born June 29, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ to Frederick and Helena Keenan where she was raised. She married Walter W. Monahan remaining in Jersey City until 1963 when they moved to Dover, DE. Lorraine worked for General Foods in Dover first on the conveyor lines then in the office as a payroll secretary retiring in 1988. Shortly thereafter she worked for Avenue Medical Supplies for 15 years.
Lorraine in her younger years loved to bowl, go fishing and crabbing and spend vacations with the family at the Jersey shore. She loved to do crafts, getting flowers and doing flower arrangements. She loved celebrating the holidays with family especially Christmas, always having a big dinner and lots of presents.
Lorraine was a devout Catholic attending Holy Cross Church in Dover most of her life and then attending Immaculate Conception Church, Marydel, MD the last five years. She attended the adoration chapel at Holy Cross on a weekly basis and participated in home prayer groups.
She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was a long-time member of the Irish Society of Delmarva participating in many events and marching in the local St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Lorraine loved taking trips to New York City to see Broadway shows and eating at different restaurants. As everyone who knows her knows Lorraine loved elephants and had a very large collection of elephant items from figurines, pictures, jewelry, clothing and pocket books.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.
She is survived by her son, Walter M. Monahan (Debbie) Murrell Inlet, SC; daughter, Laura A Schlaupitz (Kip) Wyoming, DE; a sister, Kathleen Schultz, Lawerence Harbor, NJ; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild plus one on the way; and two special nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10am Thursday, September 28, 2023 at The Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 522 Main Street, Marydel, MD. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 27, 5-6:30pm at the funeral home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State Street, Dover where a Rosary will be held at 6:30pm. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE 11am on October 4, 2023.
