DOVER - Lois Jill Foster Dunning passed away on Saturday, Apr. 1, 2017.
Lois was born Jul. 27, 1955, in Forest Hills, N.Y., to the late Norma (neé Rosenhaus) and Michael Foster.
She was a 1973 graduate of Dover High School and a 1977 graduate of the University of Delaware. She moved to Texas in 1980, where she met the love of her life, Ricky. In 1984 she had her daughter, Rachel, who was her pride and joy. She worked at Global Marine Drilling Company in Houston, Texas for six years. She also worked security and as Pit Road Manager for Dover Downs for many years. She later worked as an Administrative Specialist for the Office of the State Bank Commissioner in Dover for 30 years.
She was a huge animal advocate; was in the drama club and on yearbook staff in high school; served on the Junior Board of Bayhealth (KGH) for 15 years; was a proud and formerly active Democrat; served as the Vice President on the Dover Public Library Commission; and served on the Board of Chiropractors under the Division of Professional Regulation. Lois was a sports enthusiast, following NASCAR, football, baseball and boxing. Her interests also included enjoying classic TV, reading and being home with her dogs, Lola and Skippy. Lois also loved being part of a small, close knit group of high school friends who call themselves "The Ladybugs." For nearly 20 years, Lois enjoyed getting together with the Bugs for pre-holiday dinners, birthday celebrations, gab sessions and just being supportive during tough times.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ricky in 2013; her father-in-law, James Roy; sister-in-law, Debra Sue; and brothers-in-law, Kenny and Ronnie.
She is survived by her daughter, Rachel, of Dover; sister, Janice Howlett and husband, Eric, of Magnolia; her mother-in-law, Betty, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Apr. 9, 2017, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to Faithful Friends Animal Society in Lois' name at 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804. www.faithfulfriends.us
