Juniors Danika Swech and Kendra Schweizer each tallied hat tricks for the Blue Hens (1-1), while senior attack Kate Bradford recorded a game-high five assists. Eleven different Hens scored in the win, including seven who notched their first collegiate goals.

Freshmen Riley Gillin and Jenna McHale along with juniors Meghan Johnson, Amelia Kienzle and Nikki Feaster each scored twice for Delaware.

Moe Brown recorded 16 saves in the cage for the Hornets (0-1), who got goals from Gwenna Gentle, Emmy McGill and Tamrin Swann. Delaware out-shot DSU, 44-9.

The tournament, an official FedExCup tournament of the PGA Tour, will be held Thursday through Sunday at Grande Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande. Nieves earned a spot in the field during a two-day tournament held in Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico earlier this month.

Nieves is the second UD men’s golfer to appear on the tour, along with Joey McLister, who competed in the 2012 Zurich Classic in New Orleans.
