DOVER - Lloyd S. Barrett of Dover died on Thursday, February 11, 2016. He was 77. Lloyd was born on December 31, 1938, the son of the late Raymond and Mildred Barrett. He was self-employed and worked for many people in the Dover area. Lloyd was an extremely hard worker and would give his all in everything he did. Lloyd also provided care and comfort for his grandfather, father, and mother late in their lives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Horsey. He is survived by his two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alice Dunning of Dover, and Ray Ann and Norman Alexander of Kenton. He also leaves behind Nancy Barrett and her husband, Robert; his cousin, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy played a major role in Lloyd's life the last few years. She was a staple for Lloyd every day and during his recent illness provided support and care throughout each and every day. He also leaves behind an adopted family, that of Thomas and Margarete MacLeish and their sons, Thomas, Daniel (and wife, Erin, and sons, Daniel and Declan), Ryan and Sean. Lloyd and his mother were the day care providers for Tom and Margie, and their boys became a part of "Uncle" Lloyd's life and "Uncle" Lloyd a significant part of theirs. From a young age, Lloyd was extremely mechanically inclined and used his innate knowledge with his friends to build homemade go-karts and race them through the streets. Lloyd enjoyed the music of Johnny Cash, his favorite song was "Folsom Prison Blues," and the comedy of Abbott and Costello. Later in his life, Lloyd traveled to Ireland and the favorite part of his trip there was tracing his ancestry. His favorite subject in school was History, Egyptian in particular. Lloyd was always ready to share a story or memory with anyone and his selflessness, love, and kindness warmed the hearts of anyone he came in contact with stranger, friend, or family. Funeral services are 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at Trader Funeral Home , 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901. Friends may call one hour before time of service. Burial is at Sharon hill memorial park in Dover. In lieu of flowers, and given Lloyd's love of children, a donation in Lloyd's memory may be made to: "The Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club." Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com
