DOVER - Lionel Calvin Ashley, affectionately known as "Nel" departed this life on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012, at his home. Lionel Calvin Ashley, a native of the Eastern Shore, was born June 9, 1956, in Dover, Del. He was the son of Rosie Ashley and the Late Bishop James Ashley Sr. Nel, received his early childhood education in the public school district of Chestertown, Md, where he later completed his education in Delaware's Capital School district. He mastered his occupational trade as a Cement Masonry Contractor. He met and married Mary H. Brooks, from this 29 year union they were blessed with four children. Lionel, will forever live in the hearts of his family and community of friends. He leaves to cherish his memory; his beloved mother, Rosie A Ashley; mother of his children, Mary Ashley-Butler; one son, Charles L Scott; three daughters, Keiyana Kearse (Bradley), Na'Kisha Cartwright (Kenneth), and Yalonda Scott (Cory); three brothers, Overseer James Ashley Jr. (Pippa), Elder Tyrone Ashley (Darlene), Elder Donald Ashley (Tina); one sister, Leola (Bonnie) Jackson; two uncles, Arnold Sudler (Pastor Shirley); three aunts, Mable; cousins, Lorraine Stevens and Deretha Ridgway (Michael); 14 grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Home Going Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 1, 2012.
