Linwood B. Marvel

MILLSBORO - Linwood B. Marvel, 84, of Millsboro, passed away at his daughter's home Tuesday, July 26, 2011, after an extended illness. Linwood was born Dec. 26, 1926, to the late Kendall and Lizzie Melson Marvel of Millville, Del. He was also predeceased by his wife, Grace Hammond Marvel of 46 years, his wife Dolores Marker Marvel of 10 years, and a step son-in-law, Clayton Marker. Linwood was a veteran of World War II. He worked at A.E. Moore, Inc. in Millsboro, for over 25 years. Linwood had a passion for the Lord and helping others. He was a member of the Ocean View Church of Christ where he served as teacher since 1951, deacon for three years, and as an Elder from 1959 until his death. Linwood was a lifetime member of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company with 61 years of service. He held several positions including president and had been serving as company chaplain since 1970. Linwood was a past president of the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighter's Association. He was also a volunteer chaplain in the Sussex County Correctional Institute. Linwood is survived by two sons, Roger Marvel and wife Libby of Chesapeake, Va., Dennis Marvel and wife Janice of Roxana; and a daughter, Carol Marvel Stuart and husband Ron, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two step-daughters, Rita Mahaffey and husband Glenn of Georgetown, Joyce Wilson and husband Donald of Georgetown; and a step daughter-in-law Lisa Marker of Millsboro. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Ocean View Church of Christ, 51 West Avenue, in Ocean View on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the funeral service beginning at noon. Burial will be at the St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Ocean View Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 1247, Ocean View, DE 19970 or the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
