Lincoln man arrested for DUI after pursuit

Posted

DOVER — Delaware State Police arrested Kenneth Barlow, 26, of Lincoln, on multiple charges following a pursuit Sunday, DSP spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

At approximately 10:01 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Del. 1, near Exit 91 (Kitts Hummock Road), for reports of a red Ford Ranger traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

A trooper operating a fully marked police car in the area located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, Cpl. Pepper said.

The truck failed to stop and continued traveling in the wrong direction for several minutes before stop sticks were deployed, authorities said.

The vehicle continued traveling on Del. 1 until troopers were able to slow and stop the pickup by surrounding it, Cpl. Pepper added.

Mr. Barlow was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and a strong odor of alcohol was detected when officers made contact with him, police said. Following an investigation, the suspect was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was medically cleared before being transported to Troop 3, Magnolia.

Mr. Barlow was charged with disregarding a police officer’s signal (felony), driving a vehicle under the influence, failure to have insurance in possession, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey a traffic device and driving on the wrong side of the road.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $2,400 secured bond.
