Lewis E. Lane

CHURCH HILL, Md. - Lewis "Lew" E. Lane, 84, of Church Hill, died March 4, 2011, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. Lew was born on March 4, 1927, in Downington, Pa,, son of the late John E. and Lucy Rowe Lane. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII. He worked for Monumental Life Insurance Company 'AEGON" and the Hogans Insurance Agency for over 30 years. His memberships included Church Hill United Methodist Church, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36, Chester River Yacht and Country Club, and Queen Anne's County Planning & Zoning Board. He was a past member of Church Hill Lions Club, Greater Eastern Shore Bowling Assoc, where he served as an officer, and several bowling leagues in Chestertown. He enjoyed golf, poker and horse racing. Lew is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Mench Lane; three children, Kathy L. Redman and her husband Phillip of Chestertown, Lewis 'Buzzy' Lane and his wife Sally of Chestertown, and Robert Andy Lane and his wife Amy of Jarrettsville; a brother, John E. Lane Jr. of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where service will began at 7 p.m. Burial will be held privately. Memorials may be offered the to American Heart Assoc. 415 N.
