Lettie (Marvel) Hurley

GEORGETOWN - Lettie (Marvel) Hurley, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes, where she had been a resident for 6 years. She was 95. She was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Lewes, daughter of the late Manaen B. and Adah (Steele) Marvel. Mrs. Hurley along with her husband lived in Philadelphia, for 30 years, where she worked as a waitress, before moving back to Delaware in the late 60's. She loved horseracing and through the years was employed at racetracks in Delaware and Maryland. She also worked as a homecare provider until her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Hurley in 1970. She is survived by a brother, Manaen B. Marvel Jr. and his wife, Grace of Milford, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Graveside services and burial will be Friday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
