Just a thought: In my 72 years, I have seen quite a lot. The economy rise and fall, crash and recover. Wars start and end. Interest rates rise and fall.
But with all this, one thing has always been consistent: If you didn’t like what was going on, you could show it at the voting booth. If enough people shared your opinion, your representative got the chance to change things.
In all this time, our system has worked.
Now, throughout the country, Republicans want to change the system. The one thing that, at the end of the day, means one person, one vote, and it counts. The candidate with the most votes at the end wins. Our system already has enough safeguards that have worked fine for more than 200 years.
The economy, COVID-19, immigration, defense … all the issues at hand will get worked out, they always have. But if we don’t protect our voting rights, we may lose the very system that allows us to do it.
