Letter to the Editor: Setting record straight on claims about Trump

Posted

The Magnolia author of a letter offers a condemnation of the current president, Joe Biden, and haphazardly emphasizes points that show his predecessor — 45, as he now prefers to be known — as God’s gift to America (“Letter writer misses mark about pandemic, BLM, taxes,” April 19).

To set the record straight first on the vaccine: If 45 had done what the experts told him to do in the first place, there would not be 560,000 deaths that came too late for vaccinations. Crediting 45 for “direct dealings with drug manufacturers” completely ignores the fact that the most anti-science president in modern history refused to wear a mask, proposed idiotic solutions like bleach and ultraviolet light, claimed the virus would “just disappear,” condemned immunologists while supporting baseless claims by incompetents and then caught COVID-19 himself.

I am amazed at the writer’s concern over the founders of the Black Lives Matter movement simply because he offers no such vilification for those sworn to “serve and protect” who kill suspects. People of color being killed by police is exactly what created the movement in the first place, regardless of the founders’ beliefs.

In addition, his statement mentioning “communist Democrats” shows complete and willful ignorance of how 45 called for censorship of any entity that criticized him, by condemning any general who disagreed with him, by attempting to prevent people from voting, by installing yes-men at every level of his administration and by cuddling up to and admiring the behavior of Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin and Mohammed bin Salman, against the advice of American intelligence.

Worst of all is 45’s determination to both allow and encourage the corruption of the 2020 election, which led directly to the treasonous acts of Jan. 6 — or has the writer somehow conveniently forgotten armed insurrectionists in the Capitol? Has Biden ever, ever claimed that there were “good” neo-Nazis? Has Kamala Harris ever called the free press “the enemy of the people”? Drain the swamp? Make America great again? 45 is neck-deep in the swamp and definitely made America less great under his reign of infantile tweets.
