Letter to the Editor: Anthem marked end to broadcasting day

Posted

Years in the past when I was going to school, the television station would go off the air about 11 p.m. after playing the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, authored by Francis Scott Key and composed by John Stafford Smith. The same song would be played the next morning about 6 a.m., and the TV station would come on the air.

That was the good old days, before cable, dish or satellite came about. Your parents knew that their kids would get a good night’s sleep without sitting up all night and watching TV.
