Lakey: Questions linger about NCCo data center

Posted

Having read Mr. David T. Stevenson’s Opinion, a lot of good information is disclosed for those of us who did not see this coming (“How a data center could affect electric bills”). It would seem that electric customers will probably be the losers in this deal.

What isn’t disclosed is why do we need a new data center in Delaware? Who financially benefits from building one? Bankers? The New Castle County government? Probably. It will be built by out-of-state contractors, like everything else, because there are so few builders here. Look at the license plates of construction workers’ cars at Delaware worksites. Most of them are either from Maryland or Pennsylvania.

What is Starwood Digital Ventures, where does it come from and who cut this deal? What will this cost the taxpayers? Is the county, state or both subsidizing this project to get the company to build here? Is the state going to support more real electric generation in Delaware or will it keep pushing the solar and windmill ruse until we have the brownouts and blackouts that our sister state, California, suffers from?

But, most importantly, when are our Delaware voters going to wake up? Delaware school district officials are already laughing at us, now to be joined by Starwood Digital Ventures. This is what you get with a one-party state!
