I am reading that Gov. Matt Meyer is against the electric car mandate “as written.” The mandate was not passed as law by the General Assembly. It was created by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, totally bypassing the will of the people. Which means that it is an administrative “law” that was pushed through by the then-governor’s Cabinet. If he chooses to, this governor should be able to cancel the whole thing.
Will he? Can we trust him? Throughout his time as county executive, he was adamant that he would not raise taxes. He was elected to the office that he coveted, and I am sure his record on taxes was a big help. He gets elected, and what is the first thing he does? He pushes for a large increase in his already bloated proposed budget, with tax and fee increases to help pay for it. Can we trust him? I think not.
