Lacy Edward Nichols Jr.

Nichols, Jr., 67 Lacy 'Nick' Edward Nichols, Jr. passed away Saturday Dec. 1, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Nichols was born Dec. 22, 1944 in Greensboro, Md. to Lacy E. Nichols, Sr. and the late Margaret Hill Nichols. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam. Mr. Nichols had worked as a Fisheries Biologist in NC before coming to Delaware where he worked for DNREC as a Fish and Wildlife Construction Manager. Two of his major projects were Dupont Nature Center and the Cedar Creek Boat Ramp which was named in his honor. He enjoyed wood working, cabinet making and NASCAR. Mr. Nichols was a member of American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2, Dover. Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife of seven years, Merrianne Lessor Nichols; son, Peter E. Nichols, Sr. and his wife Spring of Camden, Del.; daughter, Penny Bauer and her husband Brian of Wilmington, N.C.; his father, Lacy E. Nichols, Sr. of Dover; brother, Mike Nichols and his wife Pam of Felton, De.; sister, Pat Nichols and her husband Allan Shepard of Wilmington, De.; grandson, Peter E. "PJ" Nichols, Jr. and nephew, Jake Nichols. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Saturday Dec. 8, 2012 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 Dupont Blvd, Ste 6, Millsboro, DE 19966 or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 2600 Virginia Avenue, NW, Suite 104, Washington, DC 20037.
