Katherine J.A. Bland, 57

SMYRNA - Katherine J.A. Bland, of Smyrna, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. She was 57. Katherine was born April 24, 1952, in Middletown, the daughter of the late Edward W. and Mary Lloyd Snow. She worked in the laundry department at Westminster Health Center in Dover for 22 years before retirement. Katherine enjoyed vacationing with her husband, spending time with her family, shopping, country music and collecting dolls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth McGinnis; and two sisters, Annabelle Alexander, and Georgia Alexander . She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Bland; four children, Katherine Goad and her husband Neal of Chestertown, Md., Tammy McGinnis and her husband Ronald Johnson of Hartly; two stepchildren, Leslie Bland of Chestertown and Ricky Bland of Galena, Md.; four brothers, Edward "Dick" Snow of Wilmington, Steve snow of Smyrna, Jimmy Snow of Hartly and Harvey Snow of Clayton; three sisters, Mary Cole of Marydel, Stella McGinnis of Felton, and Avis Knotts of Kenton; her grandchildren, Kendall McGinnis, Jodi Ruff, Kimberly and Jessica McGinnis, Jennifer and Laura Johnson, Daisy and Trevor Bland, Brittany Bentley and Savannah and Gunnar Goads; and a great-granddaughter, Kourtney Corkell. Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street, Smyrna.
