SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Katherine E. Adkins, of Sudlersville, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 95. Mrs. Adkins was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Templeville, the daughter of the late James F. and Martha Downs Everett. She worked as an accountant for Halloway Chevrolet-Olds in Easton, Maryland for six years before retirement. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Downs Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Beacom Business School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Melvin Adkins in 2001, with whom she enjoyed several years of travel while he was in the military and a sister, Charlotte E. Robinson, also in 2001. She is survived by two sons, Charles M. Adkins at home and Robert J. Adkins of Cupertino, Calif.; a sister, Mary Baker of Green Brook, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Sara and Markl and several loving nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Downs Chapel United Methodist Church, in care of Ginger Jones, 6703 Sudlersville, MD 21649. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Letters of condolence may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
