Karen Elaine Wheeler

SELBYVILLE - Karen Elaine Wheeler, age 58, of Selbyville, died peacefully, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born Aug. 2, 1952, Karen graduated from Georgetown High School. For the next 20 years, she was a bookkeeper for a couple local businesses. She then went to work for Mike Doyle at Doyle's Restaurant in Selbyville, working 10 years as his office manager, retiring in 2006, due to illness. She was a member of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church. Karen loved going to the beach, taking trips, going out to dinner and shopping. Her parents, Cullen B. and Mabel B. Simmons, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, John M. Wheeler, Jr.; her daughter, Jill E. Litten and husband Harry E. Litten; sister, Kay E. Uhle and husband Robert Uhle; niece, Lisa K. Grimes and husband Bill Grimes; two step-grandchildren, Tara Litten and Josh Litten; five step-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. She will be missed by family members and friends. A funeral service will be 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave, Ocean View, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; or Mariner's Bethel U.M. Church, 81 Central Ave, Ocean View, DE 19970. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
