TOWNSEND - June Roop, of Townsend, age 78, took her journey to the other side on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, were she will join the rest of her family who have already crossed over. Mrs. Roop was born June 12, 1931, in Ridley, Pa., the daughter of the late Delbert and Ethel Shockley. She was a 1949 graduate of Media High School. She retired from the State of Delaware Auditors Office and prior to that worked at Metal Masters and Tyler Refrigeration. She was a member of the First State Iris Society and the Diamond State Iris Society. She will always be remembered for her love of flowers but had a special fondness for Irises. She grew, showed, and judged Irises. June was known for sharing her beloved Irises from which she won many ribbons at Iris shows. She was deeply loved and was endlessly devoted to her family and will be greatly missed by all whom she has touched and influenced through a lifetime of kindness, generosity, and sincere caring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cyndi Compton; and a brother, Delbert Mack "Sonny" Shockley. June "Lollypop" was a loving wife and will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 58 years, Luther H. Roop; her precious dog, Missy Ulla; her daughter, Sandy Faulkner and her husband, Rick of Townsend; her son, Randy L. Roop and his wife, Elizabeth of Townsend; her sister, Ethel Sockwell and her husband, Max of Greensboro, N.C.; her brother, Ralph Shockley and his wife, Marie of Dover; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located on 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call at 6 p.m. Burial will be private. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street, Smyrna.
