June J. Pennewill passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. June was born on May 30, 1956, in Wilmington, DE to the late Louise and Arthur Pennewill, Jr.
June spent her life living in Delaware and graduated from Middletown High School. She attended Wilmington College where she earned a BA and a Masters in Human Resources. June worked for the State of Delaware Division of Corporations, and then for the Department of Finance and retired with 30 years of service in 2010. After her retirement she continued her education and found her true calling in life. She became a preschool teacher at Wesley Preschool and PlayCare in 2012. She then went on to teach at Holy Cross in 2020. Her kids meant the world to her. In her free time, June enjoyed cooking and baking and couldn't wait to bring all the desserts to Christmas dinner. She was a Raiders, Phillies and tennis fan with Rafael Nadal being her all time favorite. She was a faithful Middletown High School (MHS) football fan and a proud MHS alum. She was also an active USO volunteer and a past member of the Townsend Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents; June was preceded in death by her aunt, Frances Harris of Townsend.
June is survived by sister, Virginia Austin of Smyrna; niece, Janay Austin-Carlson (Roy) of Washington D.C.; nephew, Eric Austin (Tonya) of Smyrna; great nieces, Brittany and Haley Austin; great nephew, Dale Austin; and great great niece, Aubree Wyatt, who was the apple of her eye.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover, DE 19901. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Chesapeake City, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the USO, 500 Purple Heart Way, Dover, DE 19902 or to the MHS Sports Boosters, Attn: Zach Blum, 120 Silver Lake Road, Middletown, DE 19709.
