Julia Bertha Brown Smith Nicholson

Smith Nicholson, 87 DOVER - Julia Bertha Brown Smith Nicholson, 87, of Dover, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. Bert was the fifth of twelve children born to the late Rachel and Chester Brown. She attended Dover High School and was most proud of obtaining her GED after the age 50. In addition to her parents, Bert was predeceased by two husbands, Harry James Smith, and Worth Nicholson. She is reunited in heaven with her first born daughter, Beryl Jean Calloway. In addition, there will be a heavenly reunion of brothers, Marvin, Roy, and Jim Brown, as well as sisters, Ginny Kane, Ruth Ann Brown, and Emily Kohot. Bert was a beloved mother, sister, and friend. An accomplished seamstress, she also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing cards. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law since 2002. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Jim Quirk; grandchildren and spouses, Gregory Calloway Sr. (Rhonda), Carrie Calloway (Duane), David Banks, Michael Quirk (Kathy), and Jamie Quirk; great-grandchildren include Hope Schneider (Kevin), Greg Calloway, Jr., Jenna Calloway, Rachel Calloway, Charles Kenneth Calloway, Isabella "Bella" Banks, Dylan Quirk, and Liam Quirk; and great-great-grandchildren, Morgan Cappachino, Brandon Schneider, and Britney Schneider. Surviving siblings are Harley "Bud" Brown, Flora "Sis" Rust, Ola Ray (husband Ernest), Edward "Pete" Brown (wife Kay) and Beulah Eskridge (husband Edward). She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at 6 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover. Visitation precedes the service from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will be on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.
