Joseph Lee Hurd, 79

HARTLY - Joseph Lee Hurd, 79, of Hartly, passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at his home with family. He was born on March 30, 1930, in Harrington, to the late George and Mildred Clendaniel Hurd. Joe made many friends working for Silco Cut Rate Stores, Diamond State Dairies and Lance Inc. He and Eunice also owned and operated Hurd's Clover Farm Store. You would find him hunting and fishing when he was able. Joe attended Templeville Community Church, he enjoyed being with the children's choir, loved being a part of the Men's bible study at his home on Tuesday nights, and was an elder at church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eunice Everett Hurd of Hartly; daughters, Deborah K. Cain of Dover, Sandra H. Thompson of Dover, and Jo Ann Baker of Hartly; brothers and their wives, James W. and Mary Lou Hurd of Dover, and Jason P. and Margie Hurd, Sr. of Franklin, N.C.; sisters and their husbands, Georgeanna H. and Max Lawing of Vero Beach, Fla., Mary H. and Don Mantz of Sun City, Calif., Laura H. and Kenneth Richter of Canterbury, Grace H. and Lyman Sipple of Dover, Clara H. and Eugene Mercer of Mendham, N.J., and Betty Jane H. Steffen of Dover. Joe was proudly called Pop Pop by his six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Remembrance Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Templeville Community Church, P.O. Box 25, Templeville, MD 21670.
