Lt. Col. Joseph C. Dunnington RIDGELY, Md. - Lt. Col. Joseph C. Dunnington, of Ridgely, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, in Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del. He was 70. Joseph Dunnington was a U.S. Army Lt. Col. retiring in 1985. He was a highly decorated Vietnam War Veteran receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon retirement he moved to the Ridgely area along with his wife Fran where he enjoyed farming. He was a member of the St. Benedict-St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish. He a was founding member of the Parish's Knights of Columbus, St. Joan of Arc Council, serving has a past Grand Knight. He was born June 23, 1939, in Pisgloah, to the late John Francis and Louise C. Chase Dunnington. He is survived by his son, David A. Sr. and wife Kelly Dunnington of Camden; daughter, Deborah A. Dunnington of Cambridge; two brothers, Charles and wife Norma Dunnington of Weatherford, Texas, and James Dunnington of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Alice Aaron of Hyattsville, Deloris Dunnington of Largo, and Regina and husband Alonzo Johnson of Port Tobacco; four grandchildren, Ronald D. Acree, Jr., Felicia Dunnington, David A. Dunnington, Jr., and Sky Wren Dunnington; four great-grandchildren; and a special aunt, Ollie Catherine Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Frances "Fran" Dunnington who passed on Jan. 24, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Thursday, April 8, at the St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 408 Central Ave., Ridgely, where a visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be in Eastern Shore Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock. Condolences may be sent via www.fleegleandhelfenbein.com.
