Joseph Baynard Riddleberger, 88

GREENSBORO, Md. - Joseph Baynard Riddleberger, of Greensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton. He was 88. He was born May 31, 1920 in Greensboro, son of the late Joseph Linwood and Bessie Baynard Riddleberger. Mr. Riddleberger was a 1937, graduate of Greensboro High. He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. After returning from the war he worked for Pet Milk. He went on to own and operate the Riddleberger Insurance Agency and was the Executive Vice President of the Caroline County Bank of Greensboro. He was a charter member of Caroline Memorial VFW Post 7937 and lifetime member of the Greensboro Lions club, receiving their highest honor the Melvin Jones award. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Helen Cole Riddleberger; and his sister Jeanette Bennington. He is survived by one son, Douglas Riddleberger of Greensboro; one daughter, Jo Ann Dean and her husband Robert of Greensboro; one sister, Lorraine Redden and her husband Jack of Frederica, Del.; four grandchildren, Chuck Dean Jr. and his wife Amanda, Lisa Mack, Shawn Riddleberger and Adam Riddleberger; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and a special friend, Joan Rader of Greensboro. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday from Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
