LINCOLN -- Joseph A. Fry, 78, formerly of Granby and Stratford, Conn., and Lincoln, beloved husband of the late Alice L. Fry for 53 years, and late twin brother Edward M. Fry, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, surrounded by his loving family and the Rev. Bridget Hughes. He was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Philadelphia, to the late Albert and Johanna Fry. He worked for Avco-Lycoming of Stratford for 33 years and retired in 1982. Joseph was a member of The First Congregational Church of North Granby. In addition, he was a past member of the Lordship Father's Club and a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of Lordship. Joseph enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping, gardening, bowling and cooking. Joseph loved his family dearly. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and many grandchildren. He was active in the senior center and loved spending time with friends and being involved in social activities. To all who knew him, he was a teacher, mentor, friend and father. Joseph leaves behind his son, Edward J. Fry and his wife Laurie Andretta-Fry of Pittsfield, Mass.; his daughter, Nancy Mierzejewski and her husband James of Milford; son, Robert Fry and his wife Linda of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, Kate, J.T. and wife Kim, Lindsay, Nancy, Lorraine, Nick, Barbara, Ricky, Taylor, Logan and Mark; and a great-grandchild, Stevie. Services will be open to the public and will be 3 p.m. Saturday at The First Congregational Church, 219 N. Granby Road, Granby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First Congregational Church in Granby or the American Cancer Society. The Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby, is assisting the family.
