John Turner Wiest

SEAFORD - John T. Wiest passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was the son of John and Alice Wiest of Elkton, Md. John was self employed as a landscaper and design contractor for 54 years. He was a board member of the Delaware Nursery & Landscaping Association for many years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. For the past 52 years at Christmas time, you could find John selling Christmas trees and wreaths at his famous "Wiest Winterland". John was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534 for the past 14 years. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Dorothy Wiest; four daughters, Theresa Wiest Dechene of Millersville, Md., Melinda Wiest DiLeonardi of Pasadenda, Md., Elizabeth C. Kaste of Eldersburg, Md., Jacqueline C. Wiest of Terre Haute, Ind.; three sons, Gregory Conrad Wiest of Munich, Germany, John C. Wiest of Palm Springs, Fla., Matthew C. Wiest of Germantown, Md.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Diane Coursey of Seaford, Debbie Peppers of Hilton Head S.C., and Denise Clark of Hudson, Fla.; and step-son, Keith M. Short of Milford. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milton. After the funeral services, dinner will be served for family and friends at the Harrington Moose Lodge 534. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Nursery & Landscaping Association, P.O. Box 897, Hockessin, De 19707 or to the Harrington Moose Lodge 534, P.O. Box 339, Harrington, De 19952.
