John Thoden Sr., 80 FREDERICA - John Thoden Sr., of Frederica, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80. Mr. Thoden was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late John Thoden and Elsie M. Donath Thoden. He earned a degree in business management from Rutgers University in Camden, N.J., while living in Vineland, N.J. Mr. Thoden was a World War II veteran retiring in 1966 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was employed by the Kontes Glass Co. in Vineland then Wheaton Industries in Millville, N.J., and then he retired from Melitta Inc. in Cherry Hill, N.J., in 1992 as a plant manager. He was a member of the St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dover. Mr. Thoden was a member of the Union Lodge 7 in Dover and a member of the American Legion Post 3 in Milford, also a Royal Arch Mason and a Knights Templar in Vineland, N.J. He was a Boy Scout and scout master of troop 4 in Vineland and had also taught Sunday school in Vineland. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Christine Thoden of Frederica; sons, John Thoden of Quinlan, Texas, and William Thoden of Millville, N.J.; grandchildren, Lucy and William; great-grandson, Ryan; stepdaughters, Christine Storey of Audubon, N.J., and Rita Friel of Cherry Hill; stepbrother, Donald Burdick of Georgia; and stepsister, June Falco of Aberdeen, N.J. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
