John Roy Willey Sr.

SMYRNA - John Roy "Jack" Willey Sr., 84, of Smyrna, and formerly of Townsend, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Kent General Hospital/Bayhealth, Dover. Born on Aug. 9, 1926, in Clayton, he was the son of the late Roy and Hazel (Thomas) Willey. Jack proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded one bronze service star. In Jack's earlier years, he enjoyed training race horses and drove in many harness races throughout the state. For many years, he worked for Globe Union/Johnson Controls. Following retirement, he enjoyed working at Willey Farms with his brother, Donald Willey, a nephew, Chris Willey and his niece, Eileen Willey Simmons, whom he loved dearly. Jack enjoyed working and continued to do so until last year. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet (Foraker) Willey; a daughter, Dawn Willey Minner; a son, Mark E. Willey; brother, Donald Willey; and three sisters, Karlen Willey, Shirley Price and Gloria Weiss. He is survived by three loving daughters, Debbe Kendall of Margate, Fla., Trish Robb, who lived with him and Jennie Flitcroft of Wildwood, N.J.; a son, John R. Willey II of Smyrna; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and David Willey; four sisters, Kathleen Hendrikson, Nancy Biddle, Susan Devecchis and Mary Retz; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 17, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening, March 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, daughter and son in Townsend Cemetery.
