MILLSBORO - John Robert "Jack" O'Brien, of Millsboro, formerly of Tuckerton, N.J., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at his home. He was 81. Mr. O'Brien was born on April 30, 1929, in Upper Darby, Pa., son of the late Patrick and Mary (Reddy) O'Brien. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War era. "Jack" retired in 1982, as an insurance salesman and moved to Millsboro. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 and the Indian River Watersports Club in Millsboro. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, gardening and being around his family. "Jack" is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Gallagher) O'Brien; four children, Steven O'Brien of Plymouth Township, Pa., Sharon Bye and her husband David of Carneys Point, N.J., Scott O'Brien of Tuckerton, N.J., and Tim O'Brien and his wife Stephanie of West Creek, N.J.; a brother, Patrick O'Brien of Arlington, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 2 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Mr. O'Brien's name to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
