MILFORD - John Linden Thompson Jr., of Milford, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 89. Mr. Thompson was born the son of the late John L. and Lillian (Smoot) Thompson. Mr. Thompson retired from the Dupont Plant in Seaford in 1972 after 25 years of service. He was also a very dedicated farmer for most of his life. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Sardis U.M. Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Lou Thompson; and two brothers, John M. Thompson and Francis Selby Thompson. Mr. Thompson is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia (Penuel) Thompson; a daughter, Bonnie J. Thompson of Milford; and a son, James H. Thompson and his wife Shirley E. of Milford; two sisters, Margaretta T. Robbins of Milford, and Lillian C. Vanderwende of Rehoboth; a brother, Willard "Pierce" Thompson and his wife Doris of Milford; two granddaughters, Johnna Lin Fry and Jamie E. Thompson; a great-grandson, John Michael Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Sardis U.M. Church in care of Aileen Maloney 3277 Milford Neck Rd., Milford, DE 19963.
