MILFORD - John Lawson Thomas Jr., of Milford, died Monday, May 12, 2008. He was 76.
Mr. Thomas was born April 24, 1932, in Accomac, Va., son of the late Bertie Mackie Thomas and John Thomas Sr.
His hobbies included playing checkers, dominoes and spades.
Mr. Thomas was a member of Wesley Chapel United Church.
He received his education in South Hill, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight sisters; 12 brothers; a daughter, Virginia Lauzon; and his mother-in-law, Sarah Walls Felton.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patricia Thomas of Milford; a daughter, Denise Bowman (John) of Harrington; 22 grandchildren, including Daniel Hazzard, Tyrell Hazzard, Daneisha Hazzard and Alvino Hazzard; stepdaughters, Paula Cannon (George) and Joyce Baxter; five stepsons, Antine, Jamal, John, Tyrone and Howard; one sister, Lillie Mae Thomas Lewis of Lincoln; a special nephew, James A. Lewis II; two nieces, Melvinia Horsey and Lillie Mae Jackson; one goddaughter, Paulette Mitchell; one sister-in-law, Constance Kittrell; his godmother, Mary Burton; two special friends, Joseph Felton and Lucille Seth; a father-in-law, George Felton; many nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Young & McPherson Funeral Home, 309 N. Walnut St., Milford.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Chapel Church, Slaughterneck, where family and friends may attend a viewing beginning two hours prior.
