CHESTERTOWN, MD - John "Buddy" Hyland passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Fri., Mar. 22, 2013. His death was caused by a lung disease. Buddy was born on Sept. 19, 1943 in Baltimore, Md. at home. He moved to Rock Hall at 6 months. His parents were the late Walter "Bootie" Hyland and Mildred "Millie" Hyland Hawthorne. He attended Rock Hall High School, graduating with the class of 1961. Before his bad health, he was very active in the BPO Elk's Lodge #2472 of Chestertown. He was past trustee, held different offices and chaired committees. Bud loved boating, crabbing, fishing, music, dancing and shooting pool. He also liked to socialize with his Elk buddies and his Blue Bird friends. He also liked to travel, spending time in St. Maarten's, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Bahamas and Florida. He worked and retired after 38 years for Carpenter's Local Union #626 of New Castle, Del.. Later, when he was home, he loved television, the discovery channel, history channel and good movies. He also like cross word puzzles. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church. His greatest joy was his family; his wife, children and grandchildren. They all loved "Pop-Pop", as they called him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Hyland. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara; a daughter, Tracie Davis and Pete of Salisbury, Md.; two sons, John II and Vickie and Greg and Kristina Hyland all of Millington, Md.; six grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Owen, Marissa Hyland of Millington, Md. and Jordan and Hunter Davis of Salisbury, Md.; and three step-grandchildren, Noah Baker of Chestertown, Md., Lindsey and Caleb Marvel of Millington, Md.; a special niece, Marcia Ramirez, who was also his caregiver; sister-in-law, Linda Spray-Fry and Gary of Middletown, Del. and their family, Jill Brestensky and Jim, Tom Spray-Fry and Jessica, Lindsey Weist and Tyler; sister-in-law of Rock Hall;, Carolyn Simns and family William Edward Hyland of Fla., Scott Hyland and Tammy and their children Lindsey and Jillian Hyland. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held on Sat., Mar. 30, 2013 at noon at BPO Elk's Lodge #2474 on Rt. 20 in Chestertown, MD. A reception will follow.
