DOVER - John Henry "Jack" Conrad, Jr., 73, passed away on August 13, 2010, at Delaware Hospice in Milford surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Dover, in 1937, son of the late John Henry Conrad, Sr. and Helen Conrad Hess. He graduated from Dover High School, class of 1955. He served his country proudly in the Navy for 13 years as a Corpsman on the USS Guide and Intrepid. Jack worked in Washington D.C. for the American Legion for several years and for the Delaware State Board of Health. He retired in 1996 after 19 years with Equitable Life Insurance/American General Life Insurance. His hobbies included fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Dover Elks #1903 where he started the Elks member Golf League and the Youth Fishing Derby. He held several offices in the Elks, both local and District wide. He also was a member of the American Legion, Post 2 Dover, VFW, Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen and the United Mobile Surf Fishermen and a member of the People's Church of Christ in Dover. Jack is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Conrad; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Josh Etzweiler; and a granddaughter, Silver Etzweiler. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriot's Way, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Elks National Foundation, 200 Saulsbury Rd., Dover, DE 19904.
