John Gerald Langley

FELTON - John Gerald Langley of Felton, died peacefully at Kent General Hospital in Dover on August 13, 2010. He was surrounded by his loved ones when the Lord called him home. He was born May 27, 1925 in Solomons, Maryland, the son of John Wilson Langley and Ida Mae Wood Langley of Solomons, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, Virginia and Gladys; two brothers Woodrow(Junior) and Glenn Langley. He is survived by his former wife, Inez Jones DiSanto of Chestertown, Md.; two sons, Francis G. Langley of Felton and Stuart R. Langley of Dover, Pa.; a daughter, Rebecca L. Hall of Church Hill, Md.; a nephew, John W. Langley; sister-in-law, Margaret Langley both of Solomons, Md. In addition he has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Gerald was a lifelong waterman who fished the Chesapeake from the Potomac River to the Chesapeake Canal. He worked with numerous captains most notably his late brother Captain Junior Langley aboard the Elizabeth, of Solomons, Md. He served abroad the USS Hornet, CVA 13 from 1943 the date of her commissioning until the end of the second world war 1947. After returning home he married and went into the restaurant business operating the Golden Rule, later as a slot machine mechanic as well as a commercial truck driver. his love was trot-lining, poling the shores for crabs, and commercial gill netting stripe bass in the winter and hook lining during the summer and fall. Services will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Bear, Delaware on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by Young & McPherson Funeral Home.
